Dr. Sassan Hassassian


Dr. Hassassian is the Director of the Division of Pain Management and the Medical Director of the Center for Advanced Orthopedics & Pain Management. He is Board Certified in Pain Medicine as well as in Anesthesiology. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from George Mason University. He completed his medical training at Eastern Virginia Medical School where he had been accepted as one of the top five applicants receiving an academic scholarship.

Following medical school, Dr. Hassassian did his internship in General Surgery at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine. He then went on to a residency in Anesthesiology at New York University Medical Center, where he also did elective work at the NYU Pain Center. His subspecialty training in Pain Medicine was at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

After his fellowship training, he stayed on as a faculty member of the School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and served as an attending physician at the UMD Pain Center. Prior to his departure from Baltimore, he was an assistant professor of Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. He was also the principal investigator of multiple research projects focusing on the treatment of different pain disorders.

Dr. Hassassian has authored various articles and presentations on a multitude of pain disorders and various treatment strategies. Dr. Hassassian has extensive experience in all aspects of multi-disciplinary pain management. These include treatment of acute, chronic, benign, and malignant pain through the use of neuroablative, implantable, radiofrequency, endoscopy, and minimally invasive surgery techniques in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Dr. Hassassian has been voted as one of the top pain specialists in Washingtonian magazine in 2005, 2008, 2010
